BENAS ŠARKA

Benas Šarka, born in 1963, is an actor, director, founder of the “Gliukai” theater. In 1988 he graduated directing at Klaipėda State Conservatory, Faculty of Theater Arts (now KU Academy of Arts). The artist creates theater and movement plays, projects, performances. His performances have unconventional structures and take place in unconventional spaces (abandoned houses, streets, yards). Things, objects, nature elements (clay, water, fire) play an important role in silent plays and performances. In the performances, the boundary between the audience and the stage space is removed, the audience is drawn into a strange, sometimes even shamanic action. The artist has participated in more than thirty international theater, street theater and experimental art festivals.
