The exhibition of A. Karvelis consists of the latest works painted in the last two years. On the one hand, it is like the same works that are very characteristic of the author, full of mysticism, flashing with keys, coins, screws, bolts, cords, stones, zippers and teeming with restless thoughts like some strange living things, dripping with raindrops, tears or amber inclusions... Other works hide something fatal, grim. As in that dark mountain or high up in the sky above the city. This is especially relevant in today's situation, when the world is drowning in the problems of the pandemic and the loss of humanity...
Not only the enigmatic stories of his paintings are intriguing and fascinating, but also their texture, how A. Karvelis treats the surfaces of his works. He paints on cardboards, canvas, boards or some former pieces of furniture, forcing them to fray, poke, hug, scratch and crack like glass in ways only known to him. His painting is full of everything. Maybe now he is not as rebellious and playful as before, there is more sadness and even more mystery in him. In fact, the author has always been able to make fun of serious matters.
