INTERNATIONAL PLAIN AIR

June 21, 2018 / July 27, 2018

IDEA - When commemorating the centenary of the restoration of Lithuania's Independence, it makes sense to mention all the most memorable moments that have become cornerstones defining the concept of the country's freedom. Undoubtedly, the birth of national airlines in 1938 was a very important economic indicator of a free country for Lithuania. The development of Lithuanian civil aviation is evidenced by the law on air transport, the projects of the network of public airfields of the State of Lithuania, the letter of the Minister of Transport regarding the 1938 the first Kaunas–Klaipėda air line of civil aviation started operating. Despite the fact that Lithuania was occupied in 1941 and the airline was taken over by AEROFLOTO, within two years even a few dozen passengers had the opportunity to see all the beauty of the western part of Lithuania from a bird's eye view, flying from Kaunas to Palanga. It was not by chance that the city of Klaipėda was chosen for the plein air, through which the aerial route led. GOALS - The purpose of plein air is to show Klaipėda and its surroundings from the perspective of flight. Klaipėda's tallest buildings, aviation, and airmen will be used for this. The sea coast, a strip of pine forest, a jetty, a terminal for cruise ships and commercial ships, a marina, ferries, a renovated maritime museum, a dolphinarium, the river Dane dividing the old town in two, Meridian sails, half-timbered houses - all these views will open before the eyes of plein air participants. During the plein air, works of non-standard dimensions will be created - panoramic, with the largest possible coverage of the field of vision. The internationality of plein air will allow you to look at the city from the perspective of several cultures, to present a broader picture of it, to reveal the uniqueness of architecture and location through the eyes of other cultures.
